Monique Armstrong is a servant leader, community activist, administrator and mentor, with a firm belief and inspiration from the words of George Washington Carver: “no individual has any right to come into the world and go out of it without leaving behind”. Serving above self, Armstrong has been actively involved on a local, state, national, and international level. A global non-profit mentor, through the United States Department of State Young Leaders of the America’s Initiative, Armstrong has coached social entrepreneurs and served as the keynote speaker in Trinidad & Tobago. Additionally, she’s presented in Turin, Italy and taught students in the United States Pan-African Leadership Program. An Athena International Young Professional Leadership Award winner, Ball Brothers Foundation Fellow, and inaugural graduate of Shafer Leadership Academy, Armstrong has been featured in “Indiana Minority Business Magazine” as one of Indiana’s top executives, honored as one of Muncie’s Indiana’s Twenty Under Forty, received the Ball State University Alumni Award of Achievement, and was featured within Muncie Magazine twice. While civically serving above self, professionally, Monique was appointed by Mayor (and former Indiana State Legislator) Dennis Tyler in 2018 as the Assistant Director of Community Development for the City of Muncie (population 70,000) administering a 1.7 million budget. She brought to the position impressive and relevant granting experience, while leading and participating in community driven organizations. Prior to her appointment, Armstrong led Motivate Our Minds, Inc., the same organization that motivated her as a child. Before accepting the Executive Director position, she served on the organization’s board of directors. Armstrong exhibited her commitment to the community by volunteering as communication’s co-chair for the Muncie Action Plan Steering committee, United Way of Delaware County non-profit campaign chair, Muncie Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Business Education Partnership Committee Member, Muncie YMCA Board of Directors, Orchestra Indiana (formerly Muncie Symphony Orchestra) Board Treasurer, Delaware County Historical Society Board Member, chair of the Delaware County Very Important Volunteer Awards (V!VA), David Owsley Museum of Art Education Advisory Committee, Ball State University Black Alumni Constituent Society Board of Directors, and Quality Housing Development Board of Directors. In addition, she is a Rotarian, and past president of the Anderson Muncie Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Armstrong earned a Bachelors degree from Butler University, in Public and Corporate Communication and a Masters degree in Executive Development for Public Service from Ball State University, where she worked for Building Better Communities through Grantsmanship in the Office of Academic Research and Sponsored Programs. She went on to complete post graduate work at Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, gaining a certificate in fundraising development. Since transitioning to Texas, Armstrong has worked with the Houston Texas Poor People’s Campaign and is a founding member of Project Voter Turnout 2020. While sharing her experience, passion, and professionalism with those that seek her consultation, Armstrong currently serves on the First Merchants Bank Eastern Region Advisory Board.
